introduction
α-carotene (Alpha-carotene) is a member of the carotenoid family and is one of the most abundant carotenoids in a healthy diet. The body can convert alpha-and beta-carotene into vitamin A needed to maintain healthy skin and bones, good eyesight and a strong immune system. Since the body converts α-carotene into vitamin A, α-carotene is called the precursor form of vitamin A. However, as a vitamin A precursor, α-carotene is only half as effective as β-carotene, which is another well-known carotenoid. But on the other hand, as an antioxidant, α-carotene is more potent than β-carotene.
function
Antioxidants are enzymes that prevent free radicals from decomposing or oxidizing cells. Powerful antioxidants such as alpha-carotene can wipe out free radicals before they damage the body and cause chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. In addition, α-carotene also plays a role in preventing cancer by stimulating cell-to-cell communication, which is a process needed to ensure proper cell division.
food sources
α-carotene contains flavonoids, which are antioxidants that provide color and fragrance to many orange or red fruits and vegetables. Vegetables and fruits such as carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupe, spinach, mango, kiwi fruit and pumpkin are the best sources of α-carotene.
efficacy
carrot has the effects of relieving asthma, removing phlegm, promoting digestion and swelling. Experiments have proved that the ability of α-carotene to inhibit tumor cells is 10 times that of β-carotene, and it has a strong effect on preventing abnormal changes in DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). As early as more than ten years ago, studies found that the higher the concentration of α-carotene in the blood, the lower the risk of heart disease in the subjects. According to a 14-year follow-up survey conducted by researchers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people with higher blood alpha-carotene content have longer lives.
synthesis method
A method for preparing α-carotene, which comprises: under the protection of nitrogen, in an organic solvent, in the presence of a base, 3-methyl -5-(2,6, 6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexene-1-yl)-1, 4-pentadienyl phosphonic acid diethyl ester is rearranged at -30-30°C; then, to the mixture after the rearrangement reaction of step (I), decaparbaldehyde is added to carry out a Wittig-Horner condensation reaction at a temperature of 0-30°C to obtain α-carotene.
production method
1. The best sources of α-carotene and β-carotene are carrots, palm oil and various green leaves.
